The CAYS curriculum was designed for educators by educators.

Developed by Candice Fee, a counselor, teacher, and school administrator, CAYS curriculum uses the guiding principle that people learn best when immersed in relevant and integrated projects. It meets Core Content ELA Standards and Standards for Career Readiness. School systems that adopt the curriculum report improved attendance and higher test scores. Students who go through the CAYS curriculum double their college-going rates and they go to college motivated with a plan for their future!

Through strategic development in collaboration with students, free resources have been cultivated to provide participants with rich experiences at no cost to the school or district.

  • Students often act out because they’re frustrated, bored, or feel unsupported, left out, or lost.

  • The resources in the Discover Your Purpose materials give students new ways of putting language around what they’re feeling and help them navigate relationships with teachers, parents, and peers more easily.

  • The Discover Your Purpose program helps improve classroom culture—empowering students to feel more secure in their identity and their dreams for the future.

  • The Discover Your Purpose lessons build a bridge between standardized curriculum and each student’s unique identity.

  • Discover Your Purpose empowers young people to reframe learning as a pathway to a meaningful personal life and fulfilling career direction.

Adding Discover Your Purpose to what you’re already teaching in the classroom is seamless.

The Discover Your Purpose lessons include easy-to-implement self-discovery exercises that are fun and can be adapted to the learning needs of students from 10 to 19 years old.

Discover Your Purpose can be taught in and out of the classroom. It can also be integrated into youth empowerment organizations and after-school programs.

How educator training works:

Part One: Discover

OVERVIEW | STANDARDS | ASSESSMENT

Through targeted activities and hands-on learning, you’ll Discover how the stages of the CAYS curriculum are specifically designed to meet the goals you have for student learning.

You’ll be immersed in the research-based curriculum as you Experience, Discover, Define, and Reflect while learning a specific pedagogy, standards, and assessment practices that are used consistently throughout the curriculum.

Part Two: Develop

CURRICULUM MAPPING

We’ll review all workshops and use templates to Develop an individualized curriculum map detailing when workshops will be taught in your classroom.

You’ll collaborate and use core content standards, literacy standards, project outcomes, standards for career ready practice, and essential skills in a sequential manner, relevant to your personal teaching goals.

Part Three: Live

DISCOVER & SHARE YOUR OWN PURPOSE

You will Live your own purpose by diving deeper into the curriculum as a learner.

As a culminating activity, you’ll share your feedback and insights through an ‘expression’ that ignites the community and creates space to practice with prompts and rubrics used in the student experience.

Your training includes:

  • Teacher’s Guide including standards, assessments, and lesson plans

  • Curriculum Map Template will be used as teachers are guided through building a map of their curriculum including incorporating CAYS workshops

  • Teacher Workbook as teachers experience the curriculum as a learner they will reflect in this resource making relevant connections to their purpose and teaching practices

  • Digital Resource Library includes samples of student work that will be used during training and can use used as models by students while engaging with the curriculum
