Workshop details:

In this workshop I will share my story with you about how I found the career of occupational therapy during a time of crossroads in career paths. I will be able to share with you the advantages of a career in OT such as the many options of specialties; e.g. in hospital, school, vocational rehab, etc. As well as give you more information about my personal specialization, pediatrics. Overall, the pay is very competitive and the job market for OTs in various settings is high. If you want to know more about this profession, I can offer you guidance and have you leaving my presentation with an idea of the steps you will need to take.

Meet Myra Desquitado-Prado

Occupational therapist, California Children’s Services

I started down one career path by attending one year at a graduate program, before realizing it wasn’t for me. When researching other careers that matched my personality, interests, and prior college coursework, I discovered occupational therapy (OT). It was a very difficult decision to leave that program and start on a new path. I had to take several additional courses at a community college and do volunteer hours in the field before I could apply to a grad program in OT. But I knew it would be worth it because I had researched that the job market for OTs is very strong. I ended up working in pediatric OT for over 20 years.
